HOW IS THE WELLNESS CENTER DIFFERENT FROM A NORMAL GYM?

The ActiveEDGE Wellness Center is all about helping you accomplish your goals…not just giving you access to exercise machines. That is why we take measurements, create a personalized program to get you to where you want to be and follow up with ongoing support to help you overcome any of the hurdles that get in your way. The level of individual attention you get with your membership at ActiveEDGE is simply unparalleled.

WHAT ARE YOUR HOURS OF OPERATION?

With our after-hour card access, the gym is available for use 24 hours a day/7 days a week. The gym is staffed from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm M-Th, 7:00 am to 7:00 pm Fridays, Saturdays 8:00 am to 4:00 pm and Sundays 8:00 am to 2:00 pm. Please click here for all our hours and access information.

CAN I STILL GET A DISCOUNT FOR ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP IF I DO NOT LIVE IN TH EAREA ALL YEAR?

We have found that many of our members are college students or live part-time in Oregon and reside elsewhere the rest of the year. We have created memberships that reflect the amount of time you will likely use the gym during the course of the year. We have ¼, ½ and ¾ year memberships with the number of assessments and discounts reflecting the amount of time you will be in the area.

CAN MY KIDS USE THE ACTIVEEDGE GYM?

We are strong believers in the idea that one of the best things we can do for our kids these days is make exercise enjoyable and accessible to create healthy lifelong habits. That being said, we also know that kids and teens bodies are very different than those of adults and the exercises prescribed for them needs to reflect that. It is for that reason that we have specific age ranges with rules designed to help our kids enjoy the benefits of exercise without sustaining injuries. Teens over 14 may join as normal members. Youths between 10 and 14 can join, but we require that they have 5 personal training sessions with their parents to learn how to exercise safely under parental supervision. After the training, they may exercise with their parents. Kids 10 and under may workout under the direct supervision of one of our personal trainers to ensure that their training is safe, specific and appropriate for their age and goals.

DO I HAVE TO DO THE WELLNESS ASSESSMENT TO JOIN THE GYM?

We would never require members to do anything they are not comfortable with, but we STRONGLY encourage our members to receive their personalized program which is only created after your wellness assessment. In our humble opinion, the main problem with gyms these days is that it is a shotgun approach to fitness. When people try to train their bodies without any direction the training is not specific and inefficient at best and often dangerous leading to injuries and imbalances at worst. We believe that exercise is like medication and needs to be prescribed specifically to have the desired effect. Without assessment of where you are currently we cannot hope to provide you with a plan get you where you want to go.

WHY DO YOU INCLUDE PHYSICAL REFERENCE POINTS AS PART OF THE MEMBERSHIP?

The reason 49% of people trying to get back in shape after a period of inactivity quit is because of musculoskeletal pain.  Without physical testing, we are flying blind with respect to our exercise. This READY-FIRE-AIM approach to fitness is both inefficient and can lead to injuries. If we are going to commit our precious time to exercise, shouldn’t it be efficient and EFFECTIVE? Tracking reference points allows us to customize a program to your specific needs and gives us data to communicate your progress with you. Nothing is more motivating than feeling and SEEING  progress based on your efforts!

WHAT IS THE BREAKDOWN FOR COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE MEMBERSHIP?

We like to share the breakdown our the costs for our membership to show the incredible value of what you receive as a member.  For most gyms, your monthly dues cover the use of the equipment and the amenities in the club.  For ActiveEDGE Wellness Center, we have focused on investing in substance…the things that will directly affect your health as opposed to extra amenities that are nice, but do not help you accomplish your health goals. The medical-based testing and personalized program and training included with your Full membership would cost $810 (5 hours with personal trainer at $95/hour; RMR test at $75; 4 FMS tests at $50/test; 4 Body Composition tests at $15/test). That means that the access to the highest-end cardio equipment available (the ONLY Matrix 7xi cardio equipment on the west coast) is provided for only $16/month for an individual membership or $7.50/month for a family membership. You can see that comparing our membership costs to any other gym is really comparing apples and oranges. The real value of our Wellness approach is in the medical testing and personalized program, so you are paying for results, not just access to equipment.

WHAT KIND OF EQUIPMENT DO YOU HAVE AT THE ACTIVEEDGE WELLNESSS CENTER?

We have invested in the most cutting-edge cardio equipment available. We have the only Matrix 7xi equipment on the entire West Coast. It allows you to personalize your exercise experience whether that means going for a run or ride through the Swiss Alps, checking your Facebook, watching Videos or just focusing on your speed and incline.  We also have the best functional training equipment with the education necessary to teach you how to train your body functionally to avoid the injuries and imbalances typically seen with isolation training on sit-down circuit machines.

DO YOU HAVE PROGRAMS FOR SENIORS?

At ActiveEDGE we have a special place in our hearts for helping seniors maintain their function and independence. We offer discounted annual memberships for seniors at our family rates. We offer our Senior Fit class for seniors every Tuesday and Thursday at noon. Keep checking in with us regarding our participation with the Silver Sneakers program as we are currently going through the process of being certified as a Silver Sneakers site.

WHAT GROUP EXERCISE CLASSES DO YOU CURRENTLY OFFER?

Included with your membership are a wide array of group exercise classes that cater to all fitness levels and areas of interest. We currently offer Spin Classes, Senior Fit Club, Adult Recess, Middle Management (functional core class), Internal Circuit Training, Stability, Mobility and Strength Class and Gravity Strong. If you are not a gym member but would like to attend one of our classes, we offer a $10 drop-in option and a punch card that allows you to get your 6th class free.

One of the very special things about the ActiveEDGE Wellness Center is that we are a small, connected community committed to supporting each other in leading an active lifestyle. WHY DO YOU HAVE A PHYSICAL THERAPIST, A DIETICIAN AND A PSYCHOLOGIST AS PART OF YOUR WELLNESS TEAM?

In creating our personalized approach to helping members achieve their health goals, we realized that we all have our own specific hurdles and challenges. If our goal is to support you in reaching your highest potential, we need to have an answer for any of the hurdles that may block your path to wellness. As physical therapists, we are experts in helping our members overcome musculoskeletal limitations, but had to realize that the physical challenges are only one potential hurdle that our members may face. With how harried our lives tend to be these days, we knew that having a counselor to assist our members in prioritizing healthy balance in life would be extremely valuable. Knowing that 70% of Americans are now overweight, having an expert to help us all navigate the confusing and complicated world of nutrition is more essential than ever. This is why we have included a dietician and psychologist as members of our integrated Wellness Team. No matter what your personal hurdles may be, we have a personalized answer with our dedicated and compassionate Wellness Team.

WHAT STEPS CAN I TAKE TO GET STARTED WITH BECOMING A MEMBER OF THE ACTIVEEDGE WELLNESS COMMUNITY?

After perusing the website to learn about our novel approach to wellness, please feel free to call or stop in for a tour of our beautiful facility off the 10th Street exit in West Linn. To fully understand our novel approach to health and fitness you can read through our Gym Brochure. Once you sign up, you will have immediate access to the gym, but will also be signed up for your initial Wellness Screening.  As you leave your first session, you will have all of your personal results, the goals you have created with your Wellness specialist and a plan for how to get you from where you are to where you want to be. This plan includes individualized strategies for Exercise, Nutrition, and Lifestyle components. You will receive an individualized program of corrective exercises based on your FMS results. This program will be emailed to you with a PDF of our Wellness Notebook with all the background information you require to succeed in your journey towards your goals. These exercises serve as the foundation for your gym routine and will allow you to work your way into a gym program that leads you away from injury and muscular imbalances. After your first session, we will schedule a follow-up session with your Wellness specialist which we call Plan in Motion. This is an opportunity to teach you how to use all of the gym equipment, check your form on your exercises and give you the keys to putting your personal plan in motion!

HOW CAN I EXPECT MY LIFE TO CHANGE AS A MEMBER OF THE ACTIVEEDGE COMMUNITY?
